Unshakable Devotion
Text: Job 1:1-5
“Real devotion isn’t loud; it’s consistent.”
The Life of Job:
Job lived during the time of Moses before the law was given; there are no references in the book of Job to Jewish rites, manners, customs, religious ceremonies, priesthood, festivals, feasts, Sabbaths, or anything else mandated in the Law of Moses.
Job was a man of such outstanding character that it caught Satan’s attention.
Job experienced three major attacks on his life:
Satan attacked Job’s Character (Job 1:6-12).
Job Lost His Property and Children (Job 1:13-22).
Satan Attacked Job’s Health (Job 2:1-10).
Steps to Unshakable Devotion:
Job didn’t let his adversity change his character (Job 13:15).
God desires a generation of men and women who stand firm in the face of adversity and refuse to conform to the world.
Four traits we need to cultivate for unshakable devotion.
1. Be Blameless:
This does not refer to sinless perfection, but to sincerity—being free from guile and evil intent toward anyone.
Don’t succumb to pressures from the world.
When a good person gives in to the wicked, it’s like dumping garbage in a stream of clear water. (Prov. 25:26 CEV)
2. Live upright.
Live by the teachings of the Bible.
So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. (Eph. 5:15 NLT)
Living uprightly invites God’s favor into your life. (Ps. 84:11)
3. Fear the Lord.
(Prov. 8:13) The fear of the Lord gives us staying power. It keeps us consistently obedient to God’s Word – John Bevere.
God’s grace empowers us to walk in reverence for the Lord (Phil. 2:13 NLT).
4. Turn away from evil.
The fear of the Lord enables us to turn from evil (Prov. 16:6).
We must depend on God’s grace, which teaches us how to live in this world (Titus 2:11-12).
Turning from evil is the key to revival in our land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
The key to fearing God and turning away from evil is to align your thoughts and
actions with the Word of God.
Call to Action:
1. Settle it now – decide in advance to honor God in private, even when no one is watching.
2. Remove one compromise – identify one habit, influence, or attitude that weakens your devotion and turn away from it this week.
